Children’s
Catechetical Ministry (CCM) is a faith formation process that applies
faith to practical living in an age-appropriate curriculum. It is not
meant to be an academic study, but is designed to enhance the
children’s understanding, participation, and application of the
Catholic Faith. The program is a community-based gathering for children to explore our faith, enrich our spirituality and have fun within the
framework of our Catholic traditions.
Sessions
are taught by parents and members of the parish who receive ongoing
training and support as parish catechists. Students enrolled in CCM study the historical
development of our faith, as well as the ritual and structure of the
Mass in accordance with the curriculum recommended by the National
Conference of Bishops and the Catechetical Level Standards of the
Diocese of San Jose. Children actively participate in the creation of
prayer services and liturgies during the program year.
Grades
1 and 2 offer basic instruction and preparation for First
Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Grades 3-5 are on-going
catechetical instruction.
Grades 1 and 3-5 are offered using the We Believe textbook series published by Sadlier
and a variety of other publications, all updated in recent years to be
consistent with the current teaching of the Catholic Church. The
program focuses on the child, the family, the catechist and the Church
community in today’s world and our culture.
Grade two sacramental preparation is offered using three individual texts as follows:
- We Believe and Celebrate First Reconciliation, published by Sadlier
- We Believe and Celebrate First Eucharist, published by Sadlier
